Influential Characters

Corby from Washington asks:  What is your favorite element of the storytelling in SGU?

Jamil Walker Smith answers:  What’s been great is that all the regular characters get to do something, influence others.  It’s rarely ever that we feel like we’re background to the ‘sci-fi’ part of the story.

Identifiable Stargate

Pia from Lynchburg, VA asks:  What do you think it is about the storyline and characters that make Stargate Universe so appealing to its fans?

Executive producer Robert Cooper answers:  Stargate has always been contemporary.  Like shows like X-Files, it's about people like us dealing with supernatural situations that we can imagine might really be going on right now.  I think that makes the characters more identifiable.  Plus, I think that even though the tone of Universe is more serious SG-1, it's still got a sense of humor.

The Whole Mythology

E from Europe asks:  What did you think of Stargate before, and how do feel about it now?

Jamil Walker Smith answers:  Honestly I didn’t know that much about it before I read for it.   Now I’m getting the whole mythology around it and can see how it’s managed to last as long as it has.

Professional Icons

Kazzie from Ireland aks:  What was it like to meet Stargate icons Richard Dean Anderson and Amanda Tapping?

Ming-Na answers:  Since I didn't see too many SG-1 or Atlantis episodes, I met and worked with Richard Dean Anderson more as another professional actor rather than an icon.  I enjoyed my time with him and hope to work with him more in future SGU episodes.  As for Amanda Tapping, I got to meet her for a SGU Ladies Lunch and just immediately liked her!  She's a very special and warm person with lots of talent and drive.  I haven't had the pleasure of working with her on SGU yet, but hope to.  Meanwhile, I can see why fans love her so much.  She's amazing!
